In 1985 my husband, Dwight, informed me that he wanted a chow. I knew absolutely nothing about chows, so it was off to the library for me. As I learned about chows, I knew that I had to have one. Like most breeders, our first chow was a pet, which we loved dearly. As a result of this love of chows, we decided to become breeders, in the hopes of bringing the same pleasure that we have experienced, to others. During this time, we met with other breeders to learn everything we could. We would like to thank each and everyone, for the knowledge provided us and the kindness extended.

In October of 1994, we purchased a show quality male, which we took to matches and a few shows. That was all we needed to infect us with the show bug! In April of 1995, we purchased a show puppy, which went on to become the #4 chow bitch of 1996. This was the beginning of a new love for our chows! As we have progressed we have bred and shown many champions and several international champions. At Chowdown Kennels we appreciate and welcome any calls or visits from Chow lovers.
